I don't use calcium blocks. If what you're using is a turtle-shaped block, the form of calcium in it is not one that turtles can readily absorb. It would be better to supplement the calcium in your turtle's diet with cuttlebone (get it in the bird section) and feed him foods that contain calcium. Cuttlebone is less expensive than constantly buying calcium blocks and will give your turtle added calcium. (Does your turtle have a UVB light?)

thanks

no, i don't have a uvb light, still working on that since i jjust got my tank and i think it's going to be a while before i get a light. However, i have this lamp that i use for the turtles to bask in. and there a piece of glass in front of the lamp that says uv filter. Do you think it'll work as kind of a uv light if i take off the glass piece? :D

any type of obstruction like glass, filters out nearly all UVB rays. there should be nothing between your turtle and a UVB light, unless its a screen with about 1/2" grid spacing
