Hey guys, I found a 65 gallon acrylic aquarium, and i want to know if its a good idea to get it, cause its the only aquarium i've seen that ships. If i do, should i line the inside with plastic wrap or something?? I think it is a really good deal, cause its $150 with shipping. 48x17x18.

I can tell you that you can get a 75 gallon glass tank at Petsmart for the same price with no shipping

Heck I paid that for my 75 gallon from a local pet store.

Don't you have a petsmart near you? They seem to be all over the place. Heck I had to drive like 40 minutes to get to mine and it was worth it.. I saved a lot more than the gas cost .. although heck I also spent more than intended.. darn place is addictive.
There are 24 Petsmart stores in Maryland... It's not that large of a state there should be one close to you

I am against acrylic. Yes, they sell kits to remove scratches, but I hear those are really ineffective. Acrylic is great for fish but turts are more destructive. Where are you looking for a tank? Look for a wider one, most are 18" and I made mine 24"

How much did it all cost you, and can you post a picture up? Please make some plans, i think it would be much cheaper to make one.

I have plans, though they are really only base dimensions. The critical part, the steel support frames, were scribbled on paper that is long gone. Plus, my brother made it and he is experienced with silicone and welding steel. With that said, there are several DIY (do-it-yourself) aquarium sites that have very detailed information about building one.
I do not remember the costs... steel is very cheap and the glass should be around 100-200 depending on the finish. There is a pic in the forum somewhere...

go to
www.craigslist.com and look in the "for sale" section. I got my 55 gallon for $50 there!

Don't hate me for saying so, but I would have gone with a rubbermaid tub and then have gotten a 120+ gallon tank. A 55 gallon tank is good too and can house more reptiles in the future.
