Hey all! I've been doing great with my turtles, they have just started eating some romain lettuce, and they ate it on the first time i gave it to them! But i want to try some water plants, and the bottom of my tank is bare bottom, how to you all keep them in your tank, not floating? Should i stick them in the log i have? Or should i put a rock on them by the bottom? Much appreciated.

Water hyacinth is left to float while anacharis and amazon swords can be attached to the bottom of the tank.
I have river rocks which keeps the plants put but you can use those clippy things that weigh down veggies.

I've had many different types of water plants and it made no difference if they were "planted" or not, my turtles always pulled them up and left them floating as they munched them. So I'd not worry about planting them because turtles decorate to their own tastes :)

I have my plants in dutch rockwool. The guy's at Big al's got me on to it. Rockwool is probably the best medium there is for plants.. I have the rockwool cube in a 1" mesh pot. I then siliconed a suction cup to the bottom of the mesh pot. Voila! Another idea I had was to put a magnet in the bottom of the mesh cup and have a magnet outside of the tank on the bottom. You can drive your plants around if you want. The mag float glass cleaner got me on to that idea. Only problem with rockwool is my turts seem to enjoy shredding it. It seems like every day i gotta skim rockwool out of my tank. I have to design a lid for my mesh pot...

I just let my plants float. I think they look nice floating around and my turts would probably pull them up if they were rooted anyway.

I once had a free floating plant-anacharis...I got it from a local greenhouse. Rex and Flow loved to just sit in it...and eat it.
