i have read that you should not use certain rocks because they can change the hardness/ph of the water. does anyone know if terra cotta is o.k.?

Well first of all terra cotta isnt stone/rock it's fired clay. The only rock or stone that ive ever heard of that could change the ph of your water would be limestone. Dont use that. I really doubt terra cotta could change the ph of water as it's the standard pot used for plants all over the world.

You also shouldn't use marble. Plus, just avoid anything that may break easily like glass.

Some people also say not to use bricks because depending on what they're made of they could leech arsenic.

I like slate and ceramic tile for basking areas.
