getting a little bit of work done on Michelangelo's new tank

Ok so this tank I bought it's a 20 gallon that we know of from the measurements (we'll see once I get a gallon jug empty here) But I know it'll take a long time cleaning cause there is like red mud all over the tank (at least that's what I'm praying it is....)

But the tank came with a screen top. Now the screen I think was meant for fish or for a snake (I don't really want to know if it was for a snake...) but the holes in the screen are really small. Is that ok or should I take some of my left over hardware cloth and see if I can get it to attach to that area instead. Cause I really would like to have a nice cover that just slides on and off instead of having to tape everything down and then retape when I take the cover off.

Larger holes are better to let in the UVB light. If the screen holes are much less than 1/4 inch (and definitely if they're something like 1/8 inch), I'd use the hardware cloth.

But do you really need a screen cover?

Yeah Michelangelo will get out of his tank. He's smart about that as I've seen him try to do it when I put him back in his tank and turn around to get the hardware cloth to tape down, he'll be up on his dock already poking around and trying to get out.
