Yesterday I made the trip to Petco and instead of buying the 20 gallon I just went ahead and got the 29 gallon. She also got a new background, dock, and filter.
The tank only took about an hour to set up and I was really worried at first about her swimming abilities but she loves the new swimming space. She's a really good little swimmer. She slept on her basking dock last night but I think once she feels a bit more comfortable she'll start sleeping underwater again. She usually sleeps underwater.
Right now the only issue I'm having with the tank is the loudness of the filter water hitting the tank water during it's cycle. That's why the water level is so high. About one o'clock this morning I had to get up and raise the water level because the loudness of the filter water was killing me.
Also I don't think the filter (it's a 30 gallon+ filter) can really pull up Veronica's waste from the bottom of the tank so I might have to buy something to do it manually.
Other than those things the tank is perfect and I'm glad I spent the $100+ dollars on it.

You're going to need a bigger filter, one that works for a 90 gallon tank. It'll pull up the waste then. I have a 20 gallon tank and I'm using a 60 gallon filter that works wonders.
Also to help with the waste just get some shrimp and snails, they'll help with clean up.

daredevilgirl013: I suspected I was going to need a bigger filter. I probably won't be able to get one until next month but if it will clean up the waste better then it's worth the money.

You know buffyfan.. I was thinking just that last night. .I have one of those aquatech filters.. I think it's by whisper. Everyone says how loud the Aquaclear are, ( I have 3 of them).. that one "whisper" filter is much noisier than the Aquaclears put together.

No filter is going to pick up all the poop and debris from the bottom of the tank (they're really meant for fish and to keep the water clean). A turkey baster works wonders.)

cam722: In the middle of the night last night my friend rolled over in bed and said "That filter isn't whispering! It's yelling!". Haha. She had helped me put together the tank and was not happy with the loudness of the filter before we raised the water level.

marisa: A turkey baster?
How does that work exactly?

We have two aqua-tech filters. The filters their selves are not noisy, its the water fall. We fill our tank as full as we can to cut down on the noisy.

Mine is a whisper power filter and I actually love the sound of the water! I fall asleep to it every night. Course I'm a water person so I just love to be around the water and hear it. And this fitler didn't cost a lot. I went to Wal Mart and got it for 30 bucks. So I pleased when the Pet Store wanted at least 50 for it. (bah!!) But I think it does an amazing job and it says to change the filter media once a month and the replacement filters are only three bucks each.

daredevilgirl013: So your 60 gallon filter actually picks up the waste without trouble? Because for right now I don't mind fishing it out with a net but when I do update to a stronger filter I want to make sure it will work.

TinySlider2: It's the water falling that I'm having the noise problem with. Right now the water's really high but when she gets bigger I'll have to lower the water level a bit so she can't break free.

It does a good job from what I've seen but I also have a backup cleaning crew of snails, guppies, and ghost shrimp. But really I don't see much of anything on the bottom of the tank or around it.
