So I built a PVC rack to hold my basking platform which is a granite slab for the shallow area with a flat stone on top of the slab for the basking dry area. This frees up the underside for swimming. I also installed a big filter which will makes 2 filter systems. One on each end. The cool cave rock I used to have in my older smaller tank is now a bottom rock which holds plastic plants. The turtles sleep in the plants. I am really happy with the set up and the turtles seem to really like the new home. Still looking to add more deco in the future.

*note* The stuff on the filter is that rubber grip cloth like people in RVs use. I have it set up for the water to run down it so there is no splash or water sound as it runs.

what the hell do the little flaps do on the filter? iv seen them on other pictures and iv always wondered what they are for? is it so water does not splash around or what? and do they get really dirty after a while?

It mutes the sound of the water splashing 24/7. a little water sound is ok but it lets the water run down the flaps into the water instead of pouring all the time. It is a preference I guess. Sometimes they will turn a little green but I rarely have to change them out.

what did you use for the flaps?

I use that rubber grip liner like people put in kitchen drawers and cabinets. It comes in rolls at wallmart in the kitchen wares or also the automotive RV section. Comes in black, tan, or white normally. I cut it to fit the filter output which in the pics I got a little too wide, and tuck it in to the filter and make sure the length reaches the water line. Makes it really quiet so it doesn't sound like someone is taking an eternal leak if you know what I mean lol. Pretty easy to clean but keep a roll if I ever wish to change it out. The stuff works great on ramps too if your turtle is having problems climbing them.

thanks! mines in my room pretty much right next to my bed. we use a cup to block the waterfall but this should be a lot better!
