Filter Opinions

Ive been searching for a bit and cannot seem to find an answer to my filter questions. First of all I have a 90 Gallon tank and am going to be getting two hatchlings in a couple weeks. Im considering getting this filter

EHEIM Professional II with Thermofilter for Freshwater PRO II CANISTER THERMO FILTER 2128

If read that a lot of people use the xp3 for the difference in cost is the Eheim worth it? I dont mind spending the extra $$ if it truely does a better job.

Second question, is it worth it to have the heater combined with the filter as with the Eheim model above? This should eliminate me from having a heater in the tank. Correct?

Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. Please ask questions if you would like to.

Eheim is a really reputable brand and most people who use them have been doing so for years without problems. The XP3 is newer, and less proven as far as longevity, but owners (I'm one) will tell you they're terrific for the money and that the extra cost of the Eheim is probably not worth it. It's your call...

Personally, however, I would prefer not to have the heater combined with the filter, because if one should go, you've lost the use of the other, even temporarily. If you're serious about an Eheim, look at the Pro 2028 model. People who use them really like them. :)

I have a 90 gallon as well and am using the XP3. I've never used the Eheim but all I know is that the XP3 works wonderfully. It's so quiet and keeps the tank very clean and is itself easy to clean.

Well, I chatted with a very reptuable aquarium store last night and they did not recommend the Eheim because of the high cost and the fact that it is not as easy to clean out. So im ordering an XP3 tonight. Thanks for the advice, Im looking very forward to getting my turtles this weekend.

Rena filstar is an easier canister to clean than eheim? I think not. The guy you bought it from was probably a rena filstar dealer. I agree with marissa about their inflated price though. I did get mine on ebay brand new for a steal. You also cant beat german engineering...:)
