Turtle Home

Hi everyone, I recently put together a new home for a 18 year old female RES turtle. She's been with us since she was a baby, no bigger than 2" across. I figured a nice little upgrade was in order:

Tank: 75 Gallon
Stand: Custom
Filter: Eheim 2217 (with suggested configuration)
Heater: Eheim Jager 250 Watt TruTemp
Substrate: Quikrete Premium Playsand
Lighting: Fluker Lamps (x2)
Decor: Plastic Plants, Mopani Wood
Platform: Custom (Tile with PVC frame) <----Thanks Steve

Below are some pictures. I never thought to clean the glass before taking them. The turtle splashes really bad when it's feeding time, which causes water marks all the time. I also still need to get a background for the rear of the tank. Any feedback is welcome.

That is a really good idea with the stepped tiles. I like that.
What's the green tube?

That tube is the Eheim 2217, which is a little underpowered for a 75 gallon tank, IMHO, even if you only have it 2/3rds full. Do you have a test kit to see if it fully cycles, and how long it takes. It would be interesting to see the differences.

Also, I would have put the intake in the far corner under the basking platform and the output along the side wall if you are going to use the spraybar (horizontal green tube on left). The way you have it now, you will have a mild circulation between the spraybar and the intake, the rest of the tank will consist of areas of little circulation, so waste will get trapped there.

Ah I see. Thanks for filling us in on the tube. I'm assuming the Eheim 2217 is a cannister filter right?

Looks great! Keep the UVB and basking lamps over the basking area for maximum benefit. Unfortunately UVB lamps are not strong enough to penetrate the water surface.

Hello everyone,

I haven't been around in this neighborhood for quite some time; however, I thought I would pop in to mention that Lily is still doing great and is enjoying her home. She is now almost 23 years old.

Great pics! Your PVC/tile basking area is very similar to mine.
