Definitely fancy lighting stuff that I don't really understand. lol

How would you install a metal halide? They are typically used outdoors.

metal halides are being designed for reptile lighting. They are in a external ballast form so need to be purchased in a kit. The only one I know of right now is ReptileUV's kit. But it hasn't been available (on back order) since I found out about it last year.

haha, its ReptileUV, their bulbs are so custom and require a lot of R&D and money to meet Bob Mac's high standards that they just can't be mass produced. I know that the Mega-Ray is still on back order for all the people that had issues with the defective batch. They are almost all replaced or are replaced. But I won't hold my breath to see a metal halide available in the near future. I hope ReptileUV can prove me wrong. I want to try this light. I also hope that the Mega-Ray will be available soon. They say on the site it is but when I ordered one I didn't get a thing. We shall see.

ljapa ordered a Mega-Ray. Hopefully he has better luck and the light will show up so he can check its levels for all of us.

Ah the ol' custom trouble. They are pretty expensive huh? How long do they last? That would be cool if ljapa could do that.

supposedly the external ballast will produce uvb for 18 months. I'm sure the self ballast which is what the powersun is, produces uvb for about 12 months. Yes they are expensive, $60 compared to the $40-45 for the Powersun. They say you get what you pay for, this is why I'm so eager to see what someone we talk to has to say about it. I sure hope he gets one. I was trying to get one to test it myself. But it never happened.

I gotcha. Not too bad though. I can understand wanting to get what you pay for, especially since the cost of things.

Lol, Thank you Steve. Slowly but surely it is coming along. Maybe one day I will actually say, that's it the tank is finally done...... nope, nm! That's never gonna happen, lol.

Oh it will be done. You'll start thinking about how much happier Toku will be with more room. And, a larger tank does offer space for more fish and more hiding spots. Reinforcing the floor isn't that expensive, and think of how much easier it will be to clean:
