I thought Toku was basking yesterday when I was at school but I didn't witness it. Well, I caught him basking just now and he is still basking. So it didn't take long for him to get on the log:) Here he is, I got a picture of him basking, and he didn't dive for safety lol.........

Here is a great example of Toku moving around and changing his body's position in relation to the Sun (MVB). He is being very cooperative with me taking photos of him! I think he really appreciates the new tank!.... But, back to the pics. I have witnessed this for several years now. And these manuveres have been witnessed in the wild as well. I believe they do this to get maximum efficiency for thermoregulation and the Rays and heat distribution. Heres the pic of him putting his backside towards the light....

Welcome. :) I forgot to mention. My Sheldon sticks his butt near the light too. I think you're onto something with the effective way to thermoregulation. ;)

Yeah, no body likes a cold rear end haha! I notice the movement from him when he basks, mainly due to the fact he doesn't dart for the water when I walk into the room. But he has never let me take a pic of him basking. I usually have to sneak up on him and get the shot before he notices the camera. This was a first!

LOL That's true! Turtle must like warm tooshies too.

Sneaking is something Sheldon prefers. lol If I just walk into the room without carefully checking he jumps back into the water.

I think Toku is coming around to realizing I'm not going in the room for him. When I wake up his light is already on and I have woke up on numerous occasions to see Toku basking but as soon as I move he would head for the water. Well, this morning, I woke up but he wasn't basking yet. I took a shower and brushed my fangs, when I walked out of the bathroom he was basking, but instead of sliding into the water he just sat there. I walked right next to his tank and continued to the closet. The whole time he just watched me and kept basking. However, I did not make eye contact. He was basking the whole time, I left for school so I presume he kept basking well after I left the house. I really don't like to disturb his basking sessions, but due to the fact his tank is in my bedroom, on the wall between the door to the bedroom and the door to my bathroom, and he has a view of the whole room. It is impossible to not distrupt him. But I like how he is not panicing and just pays close attention to see my ententions. I think it's a sign that he will calculate a situation before making a decision. Of course I never saw this with the smaller 40 gal tank. I wonder if the 150 gal tank has something to do with this change in attitude?

I have to admit before the whole, "Sheldon has a fungus mess", he was calmer when basking. After the whole, "Yay we got rid of the fungus", he's more jumpy. So perhaps a change of scenery or certain events make a difference.

I'm only suprised that he would be calmer after a move to a unfamiliar scenery. But then again I was taking him out of his tank more often about a month before the upgrade and then several times while building the new tank. So maybe that has something to do with it.

The less picking up, the more happy the turtle. Trust me. ;)
