Sump AND Fx5

It's been a while since I've been on and I apologize, got a 40B and started a planted fish tank back in January. Now that I have graduated I can focus on my build for my RES/Sunfish :) Anyway, a while back I got a 135 and had a stand build in mind but I have changed plans. I want to create a stand and incorporate a behind the tank platform, almost tank long of basking area for my girl to roam. In regards to filtration, I really want to build a sump/refugium with my 55. Since I have an FX5, I was thinking of creating a custom undergravel setup with it to combat the turtles waste. The sump will take care of overall water quality and the Fx5 will be solely utilized for capturing the POOP! I have a link to the type of PVC overflow I was planing on building. Any thoughts or criticisms are welcome, Veipa I'm sure you'll have some words lol

In the video he did it smart...he used an outer piece of PVC to act as an overflow chamber. The only crappy part about a non-drilled tank is that you need to restart the siphon when you lose power.

I wouldn't put gravel in a turtle tank. The turtles can ingest the gravel and it just traps detritus even with the best of under gravel filter intentions. I'd go for a sand substrate where the poop is easily cleaned off the top.

If you've read my other posts on overflows with a turtle, then you know my feelings: Overflows for marine tanks and planted tanks. Giant canister filters for anything freshwater.

Yeah I decided it was not worth the headache despite how great it would be. I ended up acquiring a second Fx5 for a total steal so now its a matter of me upgrading my 135. Got it for $60 last fall but now when I look at it I'm like hmmmm, not BIG enough!!!!
