I just got a new 40 gallon tank and I have 2 waterfall filters, ones a whisper 40 and the other is the aquaclear 50(think thats right). I hate the noise but I literally just bought each filter all within the past 3 weeks. The aquaclear 3 days ago thinking it would be fine and everything. I was wondering if it would be worth it to get one of the canister filters, and try to sell the filters i have now?

I mean I have looked at big al's , drsfostersmith, and ebay at these filters and I know that everyone recommends the xp3 but what about cheaper ones that say they do more work?

Also if I was to do this how much should i try to sell my other filters for? I mean I do not want to mess with making the waterfall noise less because i have no tools and dont want to waste more money.

Sorry for all this writting but I really want to get it right this time around and not be left with no money, but turtle loves the new tank and has been swimming around enjoying all the room!!!!!

Well... I love my waterfall filters, but if you want to get a canister filter I'd go with the XP3. If it's cheaper and says it does more work... well, it probably doesn't.
As far as selling the used filters, check around and see what they go for on eBay.

Just remember if you get the new filter, some places sell things cheaper online and Petsmart will price match...Easton for sure, since I know you are in Columbus. I saved over 70 bucks just by printing off the online price and taking it with me.

Wow, thanks missibsu. I never really thought trying to price match with online stuff. Did they say anytthing about shipping costs compared to there price or anything, I have just never tried that. Also what filter did you end up getting, just curious.

I got the xp3. I don't know if you can get the point of knowing shipping costs online without actually committing to buy or not. I do know that the xp3 comes in a fairly large box, and while not extremely heavy, I imagine it would cost a bit to ship it. It's about 105 online and I want to think it was 180 on the shelf. As long as you take the printout with you, they will give it to you for the online price. I can't imagine that shipping would make that price difference.
*Word to the wise...I haven't been totally convinced that the employees there know what they are talking about. When I first called to see if they were instock she didn't even think that they carried them. Anyway...another story.

Shipping costs usually go by the total amount of the purchase (unless the item is exceptionally heavy). You can easily find out what the shipping costs are at Big Al's, for example, by taking a look at their shipping policy (they recently went up slightly). I would imagine other on-line retailers do this as well (or you can just call and ask).
