Mega-Ray Bulb Measurments
Hi all I got my Mega-Ray in today. I ordered it on Thursday last week. Took three working days from time of order to delivery. Not to bad if you ask me, although you pay for it. ReptileUV only offers Priority Mail 2-3 days from the USPS for shipping ($17.00). So on to some notes I made today;
Mega-Ray 100w Measurements
Changed the 100w PowerSun and installed the Mega-Ray 100w on Monday Dec 9, 2013 @ 1500.
Initial reading is 200 µW/cm2 at 9” from the bulb surface, within minutes of turning on the lamp.
The bulb face is 13” from the basking log surface. The estimated reading is 100 µW/cm2 at the surface of the log when taking the reading from an angle. At about 3” off center angled at the bulb the reading was 80 µW/cm2. These readings are well above the readings of the PowerSun 100w MVB when installed initially.
Temps and UVB readings at 30 minutes of burn-in;
Basking log surface temp: 87.6 degrees Fahrenheit
UVB reading @ 11”: 115 µW/cm2
LUX @ 12”: 7,600 LUX
When the lamp was first turned on it gave off a yellow hue. After a couple minutes the yellow hue began to turn more bluish. At 30 minutes of burn-in the color is a bluish-yellow tint. I like it better than the PowerSun’s orange tint. It looks more natural to the naked eye.
3.5 hours of use;
Temp on basking log 90.7 degrees Fahrenheit
UVB @ 11”: 110 µW/cm2
LUX @12”: 5,100 LUX
The UVB reading is right about where Toku’s limbs will be I like how the bulb doesn’t give off a ton of heat. 90 degrees is better than 100 degrees in my opinion. I the short time the bulb was on today I was very happy. The bulb was on from 3:00 to 7:00pm today. Tomorrow it will come on at 7:00am (normal time) then turn off at 7:00pm. As you can see, I run my MVB 12 hours a day and the day lights from 9:00am to 5:00pm. One thing to point out is the LUX reading dropped because the last reading at 6:30 tonight was with the day lights off. The color tint from the bulb is a bluish green color and a hint of yellow being visible.
I have a couple pics of the Mega-Ray without the day lights on;

And for comparison the PowerSun 100w;

I hope this helps anyone considering to make the change to the Mega-Ray bulbs. I will get a pic with the Day lights on sometime in the near future.
