Hi guys,

Thor has lived in this tank for more than two years and I've upgraded his home. Now I'm using this tank to grow aquatic plants for Thor to eat. So I'd like to know what's the white stuff build-up on the inside of the tank. If possibly I'd like to prevent it from growing on the inside of his new tank, and know if it's going to harm the plants.

Is it calcium build-up from the water?

Is it turtle quano build-up?

btw, the white stuff mainly "grew" in the opposite corner from where the water filter was and opposite side from where the heater was.

thanks for whatever help you can give!

Todd

I've got no clue, but from my view it looks like condensation. However, that happens with cold liquids. I honestly have never run into that problem when I had a planted tank. I wanna say something like mildew, but I don't know much about that.

Akita, it occurred on the tank when the tank was a turtle tank not an aquatic tank

Could be skin, though it looks like it might be mineral deposits. Do you have that issue with your tap water?

Steve, maybe mineral deposits, idk about our water supply?

It scrapped off easily enough with a razor blade. I just don't want it "growing" on the new tank

You'll need to regularly clean it, along with everything else to prevent any serious buildup.
