You have Carpenter skills! One thing I did with the fx is keep the outlet of the filter close to the top of the tank so it will purge when it shuts off for purging. It won't leak. Your going to put a piece of wood on the open end right? Will make it lots stronger! Looks great.

Now I'm thinking if my floor will support all this weight.

Nope, not a piece of wood, a shelf. I had them cut all wood and left leftovers there, didn't think of the openings. So will put a shelf there, I have an extra one.

For the piece of wood on the side. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's purely cosmetic, no? As far as I understand, it adds nothing in terms of strength. My 2x12 and the plywood are exactly the same length, so the side piece will hang on to the 2x12. How will it add to strength?

If I didn't have cats and didnt want to prevent them from going inside I wouldn't even bother. I'm leaving one side open because it will be against a wall and closing the other.

Also, what do your mean by putting the filter close to outlet so that if it purges then it purges in the tank? First of all, how does the distance to the outlet affect anything. And second, if both tubes go in the tank, where else would it purge to?

But seriously, after I wrote that I looked around and realized that in that spot I now I have 250 lbs of litter, 300 lbs of meat for my dog and a dresser with a bunch of useless stuff. So another 200?

I won't fill my tank all the way up, I will fill it just enough to be high enough for the filter

My floors are crooked, like slanted an inch or so. Does it matter?

The neat thing about a stock tank is that it doesn't need to be perfectly level. I'd make sure the canister is though.

What are the chances of the fx6 leaking? That's my main worry for now. That and the floors caving in

The fx shouldn't leak but we are dealing with water. I do weekly water changes because I feed in tank and also have large goldfish. Trying to keep nitrates in check. What I'm talking about as far as the filter outlet is with my fx5 it wouldn't let the air out of the filter with it located at the bottom of the tank. The fx6 turns itself off 2x a day to purge air. You might be OK because your stand is taller than mine. I had to locate the output just under the water surface so the air could escape. If the outlet is too deep under water there is too much pressure to let the air out.

You can make your own canister filter. All you need is a 5, or 7 gallon bucket, and a pump. I recommend 250 GPH+. It would probably be less than $100. Here's mine:

I also keep my canisters in an open storage container. It'll contain a small leak if I catch it in time. If you're very paranoid about, maybe add a small alarm the goes off when it's wet.

Omg I can't catch a break. I set everything up, will post pics in a few and a freaking drain is leaking. Not where the plug is but around it, where the o ring is.

Any ideas for the ramp? Right now it's acrylic sheet with some tiny holes drilled. I'm thinking of siliconing some plastic pieces to it to make a staircase

First of all calm down. The drains on the Rubbermaid tanks suck. I fixed mine with a new better one and have a post on it somewhere. I will look for it. Pissed me off 2! Brand new tank leaking drain. Its a crappy design! Lookin good slow down breath and stop to smell the flowers. Hey it helps. Sometimes I just need to stop working and relax! I will try to find my post on how to fix that drain in the morning. Bone tired!!oh yea I have a 40 gal tank upstairs at my house and the filter sits in a 40 gallon tub. Just in case!
