Hi, I would like to put some sand (river bed sand exo terra) in the botomm of his 100 liter tank. He is very small (5" ) but an adult (3 years old) and he loves to eat anything he finds. Last year he suffer impactation (I think is the right word but im not sure) after detroying his basking dock and ate all the aquarium silicone, he is 100% recovered but im very worry about sand....im worry that he will eat it and has inpactation agua in


I need some help with this

Ps: he lives with a rescued pleco in the tank, by now no fights and they have been living together during a year.

I would suggest play sand as a cheaper option. You really need to just try it out to see if your turtle would eat it. But you do have to ask yourself if its worth the risk. I have 4 turtles that have sand but then again the don't eat anything but food. There is no easy answer to your question. If it was my turtle I would probably just add a little bit to the tank and see if he tries to eat it. Others would most likely say why risk it.

I researched this a bit when I moved from river rock because it was a mess to clean, but my turtle would mouth the rock. She couldn't get any in because it was too big.

I couldn't find any cases of impaction with sand. My turtle doesn't eat it, but I think it may just pass through.
