Just finished building my first turtle topper basking area and im wondering how to go about sealing it, I want it to be safe but at the same point not rot from any of the mositure.. its not fully finished yet I still need to attatch the ramp and finish the floor with fake grass. If anyone has any ideas about water proofing this box please let me know. Forgive me if this is the wrong area im new to these forum's :) :msgreen: below is a picture so far of the project for my slider shredder.

Welcome to the site Bruceohio! Since it stays out of contact with water, you can probably use a lot of things to seal it. I don't see a pic, but love to get an idea of what you have.

I didn't even realize the pictures weren't attached, I did purchase tile that will go on the floor of the topper to prevent any moisture from sitting on the wood and I wrapped the tile in fake grass. Basically just want to waterproof it since its above the waterline in the tank.

I think most people use stain/polyurethane for their toppers. I think the various oils and waxes can also be used, but whatever you use, you just need to make sure it's fully cured.

I'm going to be taking a look today and even if its fully cured I guess my main thing I was concerned that it would not be toxic. It still has quite a bit before its completed, still need to install the uvb lighting in the ceiling and ramp. But I will check out what options I have with Polyurethane. :)
