Heaters

I just bought two Eheim 300w heaaters for a 180 gallon tank. This is the wattage I was told would be best. I just found out that they are too tall for the tank. The minimum water line is a foot above the water level in my tank, and even with the top of the tank itself. The instructions say it needs to be placed vertically. Is there any way around this? If not, is there a brand of 300w heater that would fit in 10 inches of water. My tank is 6 feet long but only 18 inches tall?

I'm pretty sure they are waterproof and can be mounted horizontally.

I have one aqueon 300w and one eheim 200w in my 300 gallon tank and they are both submersible. And they are close to the same size. Sorry I took a bit had to get home to make sure! I remember ordering the eheim 300w years ago and your right its huge. Sent it back for the 200w. 2 - 200 watt heaters will be fine in your tank. The 200w eheim is close to 15" long the aqueon is 15". . You can also lay yours down sideways. Not sure why is says vertical? I don't like to submerse mine but that's just me. I would also like to point out the fact that Aqueon has a Lifetime Warranty! And Eheim doesn't.

I think they say that because of legal reasons. I usually just keep them at an angle with just the top sticking out, but I have no problem if they occasionally get submerged. It's only the really cheap heaters that you can't fully submerge.
I've been using mostly Eheim (Jager) but I will probably try Aqueon next because Kansas raves about them

What size do you have Steve? The Eheim 300 is a beast of a heater.

I had to look it up and found the 300w Eheim is 20" long.

Seems about right. I don't use suction cups or anything, so they just sort of hang there. They're very tough heaters.
