Hey guys Fluval 306 media question

So iv had my fluval for over a month now and I'm happy with the filter just not the way my water looks, it's still brownish and cloudy...I bought a water test kit to make sure the water is good and the nitrate and nitrite levels were super high. Now the guy at the pet store was saying my media setup, which is the way it came in the 306, may not be correct. Iv thought about buying another 306 and just running two of them which should keep the water pretty damn clean...I have 3 RES all around 8 months old and I have them in a 75 gallon tank, prolly 60 gallons of water...I know they need more space but living in a condo we don't have as much space as we would like but eventually will be moved to a much bigger place...any input is greatly appreciated

Are you feeding in tank? is a lot of light reaching the tank? What kind of substrate do you have? What kind of basking area do you have?

Yes I feed them in the regular tank, iv been trying to find another small feeder tank but I'm still not sure if they would like it....as for light in the tank I have a 2 bulb combo light for UVB/A and basking light, I have a large turtle dock that they hangout on a lot. I'm not sure what you mean by "what is my substrate"

Substrate is what's in the bottom of your tank. Rocks, sand etc. Are you useing carbon in your filter? If so how often are you changing it?

I currently have nothing on the bottom of their tank, used to have gravel but read some things about turtles possibly eating the pebbles and dying so I took them out...I have two carbon bags, at least that's what they look like, that came inside the Fluval 306 when I bought it...iv only had the filter a little over a month and cleaned it just once...yesterday when I went to the pet store I was looking at new media and have no clue on if if should be using something different or just have them in a different order...anyone using a Fluval 306 I would love to hear what you use and the order you use it in the filter

3 RES could make a big mess. How much are they eating? Is too much light reaching the tank?

This link will show you how to set up your filter for turtles. Personally I don't think configuration is your problem. I'm not sure what your filter came with but useing carbon and purigen should help with the color. As Steve has pointed out overfeeding and sunlight can also cause problems.
