Basking spot

Hey y'all. We've had our RES for about 3 years now. He's housed in a 55 gal tank with 2 large oscars. Our basking spot now is the exoterra that suctions on the side (and really doesn't stay very well). He has very little space to get out of the water and I would love to have something to sit more on top of the tank. I'm not very handy and I don't have much free time (2 kids ages 1 and 2, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 3 tanks are all basically my responsibility along with the housework), so DIY projects intimidate me a bit. Is there anyone here who builds custom attachments like that? Or can y'all suggest a website that carries something like that? Thanks so much!

There was someone here offering custom built toppers, but there is also a Turtle Topper product out there: http://www.amazon.com/Decorative-Turtle ... B002O09MYE

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of it BUT it does seem to work for most people.

Thank you for the suggestion. However our tank is 18" wide (yay for odd sized tanks) so I have yet to find a commercial made topper that will fit :(

What if you did something like this? I have seen some people use this idea for easy to make cheap turtle top basking areas. Something to cut it with, measuring tape and some zip ties and I would think you would be good to go.

Looking at this again, I think I would add a top for security and stability since I have read so many stories on this Forum of RESs escaping their tanks..
