I recently bought a 100 gallon rubbermaid stock tank to house one of my sliders. While building the stand, I noticed the bottom of the stock tank has "blobs" of plastic that looks like it's from the injection mold process (maybe?). These plastic things will keep the tank from sitting flush on the stand, and it looks like they are not supposed to be there. Can i cut/file them off?

It shouldn't have large chunks of plastic on the bottom. I have 2 tanks and they didn't. My concern would be that if you try to remove them you might remove too much and cause a leak. If it's not too much you might be able to use a file on it just be careful not to remove too much. Can you return it for exchange?

All of the stock tanks have these little chunks on the bottom. It's one of the newer ones and I cannot seem to figure out how to upload a picture on here by using my phone ... the chunks are on the exterior bottom. If i remove them, then the stock tank will sit flush on it's ribbing/structural support, otherwise the tank will not be level and will be resting on these non-uniform blobs. Cutting them would not remove any of the structural support, but it would cause the tank to sit flat on it's support like it is supposed to ... I'll get some pics soon, hopefully

Ok here's a couple pictures. This is the bottom of one end of the tank. You can see 3 of the blobs and there are 6 total. They are very uneven and look like they are not supposed to be there. The stand I am building will not be able to support the entire bottom of the tank with these things protruding off the bottom. They seem to negate a lot of the benefits of having the structural supports (ribbing) on the bottom of the tank.

Yes, I'm sure you don't need it and can file it as Kansas suggested. What kind of stand are you building? You might want to add a layer of foam or a blanket for some dampening/cushioning.

Thanks! I'll definitely file them down. I'm just building a basic stand with 2x4s and plywood so my canister filter will work properly with this new tank. I also saw some people using cinder blocks and 2x4s, which looked decent.

I bought my first red eared slider over 10 years ago and she's happy as can be; She lays eggs almost every time I take her outside in the spring/early summer. This 100 gallon tank will be for a 2 year old and 5 year old slider that I rescued from someone who was unable to care for them properly. All my turtles get along, but I want to make sure they all get the space they need/want. Thanks again!

My tanka are flat on the bottom. It's no problem with what you have.
