I have two baby red eared slider's (Harold and Gabby) for a month now, their tank and there set up has been up and running perfectly for a month ! my question is do I need to keep their heat light "basking light" on 24/7 or can I turn it off at night, they do have a submersible heater that keeps their water between 78 and 80 at all times!
OH and are those live moss ball a good idea for red ear's tank

If in a small tank say 20 gallons I would turn basking lamp off at night. You have the water heated , good. Keep them on a day/night cycle like in nature. If a large 120-150 gallon setup you could keep it on as long as basking area is large so to offer several temperature ranges. Or another dock with no heat if they just want to dry off.
Once they get older those moss balls will be eaten. In my time all my RES's ate any plant I put in the tub. (juveniles/adults) That's why I have a 70 gallon plant tub just to keep up with Piggley.

They should also have a UVB lamp. Usually we have the lamps on @ sunrise and off @ sunset. Using a timer greatly makes it more convenient.
