More about the water heater....

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I can't find the answer on my heater's box or on this site so i thought i'd ask... do the heaters shut off if they heat the water temp too high? I'm just worried I'll bake my turtle

It should. What kind did you get? Does it have either a knob or dial with numbers which indicate the temperature? It should shut off when it reaches that temp, though it may be off a couple of degrees. A thermometer is very handy to double check the temp.

i bought a "marineland" submersible heater, and it has an adjustable temp knob... so i just wanted to make sure... thanks!

I think Marineland also makes the Stealth heater. I was stupid enough to let me Marineland Visi-Therm pop a couple of years ago...
