Save any small pieces. What I do is attach them together , that's is arrange them the way I want and use chopsticks cut to size as dowel pins for strength with some silicone. Instant dock custom made. I don't throw anything away , I'm a pack rat. For adult turtles I push my dowel pin in about 4" for extra strength.
I use ebay but be careful , they say 16-23" and what you get is more like 16" .

Too much approximation in size for me. How do you want to position it? In the middle (front to back) or in the corner?

I ordered the piece from ebay so we'll see how that goes when i get it. Right now I have my current dock in the back left corner of my tank but not sure how that will work with the cork. My original plan was to cut it to size and wedge it across the entire left side of the tank. But depending on the piece i'm also considering cutting it to about the size of my current dock and using the suction cup bracket from the zoomed dock to hold it in place. Should I sterilize/treat the piece before putting it in the tank?

I would have it wedge, just don't make it too tight as it will expand a little bit.
