Basking setup - mounting egg crate???

I'm going to be using plastic egg crate material for the basking area but I am unsure of how to mount it in the tank. I would prefer to not use silicone or other permanent methods. Can those with egg crate basking areas help me out? I wasn't sure if suction cups would hold it or not. If I do opt for something more permanent, is there any kind of heavy-duty velcro that can stand up to being wet all the time?

For small turtles you could make something like a bridle used for kites with a few (S) hook's to attach to the top rim. Braided fishing is very strong or leader material works well.
If turtle is heavy , you could use PVC to make a (U) shape brace to go around then up sides and hook around the top rim ? Or use PVC to make a stand in the water but to me that takes up swimming room but works.

Suction cups work but over time will have to replace now and then.

Google DIY turtle basking docks and click on images for some ideas may help.

Some turtles don't like the feel of egg crate , may have to use some kind of mat on it.

Super simple and cheap from a dollar store , a small or to size a basket. See below and tie it to the rim.

I second the use of PVC pipes, some people fill them with sand as well so they stay in place better. Suction cups aren't that great when it's hot.
You could also make some kind of hammock to hold your basking area if you love DIY and have time.
