Thanks guys. No, I don't know how he got it. I guess they could have been dormant for a while? I don't know. I can't wait until I'm supposed to give the 2nd dose and it actually gets in him...

Its liquid by mouth. I gave the 2nd dose. It went possibly better but I'm not sure I got enough in him. He has one more dose and I'll bring him in for the vet to give that one. That way I'll be less worried about it and I can see how he does it.

Does it seem to be effective?

Well I haven't seen any live worms, but I don't really know for sure...

Edit: I have seen a couple live worms. For his 3rd dose I'm taking him to the vet, so at least then I will be SURE he got all the meds...

I did a massive clean in between the 1st and 2nd doses, so there aren't really worms in the tank despite still being in his poop.

I FINALLY got the all clear from the latest stool sample yesterday! Phew, finally. 4 doses of Panacur (but really only 2, because the first 2 didn't really get in him), 3 vet visits, 3 stool samples, and LOTS of tank cleaning later and we are good to go. Luckily, the vet only charged me for meds when he administered them.

At least I know its not worth trying to give him meds at home now... the only way meds got in him was with a tube...

Also, I recommend if anyone has this problem in the future, throw away all the filter media in your canister filter and replace it with cheap filter material that you don't mind discarding. That way, you can clean everything a few times and not waste a bunch of money on filter material every time. The tank will just have to re cycle.

I added sand today, and Sedge immediately started munching on it. On to new problems :-P!

Must have been from eating live fish, although it was a bit of a delayed response. They weren't feeder fish either. Perhaps they were present in low numbers for a while before I noticed?

Sounds right, I could imagine them being easy to miss. Hopefully Sedge wasn't too bothered by it!

Well I am glad to hear it's over ! :D

Don't worry about the same, I'm sure once he will settle and get used to it he will stop lol

Yes Pokepony, he stopped. So far he doesn't seem particularly excited by the sand otherwise.
