All bio media is great if you believe in keeping a cycled tank especially if your setup is bare bottom or not. Arrange a pre filter pad on top to keep bio media clean helps it from getting dirty , easier when doing maintenance. Or what ever direction your flow is before the bio media then place the pre filter pads. A cycled tank will break down solid waste to dissolved waste so a filter can remove it better giving you clearer water.

Litefoot is correct. The filter floss will trap gunk quickly. It's great for clearing up debris in water like sand and detritus after a tank cleaning. The problem with filter floss is that it clogs very quickly so not recommended to leave it in long term. The bio media is the better long term solution for allowing good bacteria to grow and break down ammonia and nitrite. We protect the porous bio media with pre filters (usually sponge media).
