Has anyone here ever built a tank before? Is it hard or can I just silicone some glass together etc (although I'm sure it's harder than that)? Sounds like it can be a cheap way for me to upgrade in the future.

I have. The glass and silicone are not a problem. Building a stand and creating braces were the hard part - which my brother did since he's experienced at welding steel. He also did the glass and silicone... I do remember doing something. Hmmmm. The total cost was abit cheaper than a store bought tank, but the real advantage is that the tank is not too high and is wider than standard tanks.

There are also other ways to construct tanks... acrylic and sealant is a cheaper alternative. I have seen a lot of variety in DIY reef sites.
