Habitat - Indoor :: Indoor stock tank advice

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have two YBS: female- 6 yr, 14"/ male- 2 yr, 6". Currently in 150 gal (only filled to 110g) glass tank with Fluval FX6 and API XP4. I would like to build a large indoor habitat from a Tarter 8' round x 2' deep stock tank (625g). Has anyone tried this setup? Can anyone advise on filtration and lighting? I plan on building with a large basking and roaming area with plants and area for female to dig in soil and mulch. I enjoy the Fluval FX6 and would buy as many as I need unless canister is not the way to go

As far as stock tanks go, 300 is usually the max people bring inside. Is the 8 footer from Tractor Supply Store? If you intend to use the canister filters, you will need to raise the tank up a bit, probably a couple of feet. Will this be in a basement? If there is a floor beneath the tank, you should consider some reinforcement columns.

It is on a basement floor. I'm considering a pressure filter with submerged pump and waterfall filter. I am also thinking of going with the 300 gallon Rubbermaid so the turtles may have more room to explore around the tank and allow a place for the female to dig and lay eggs.

If you raise the tank up, it would be easier for you to clean and also reach in there if you have too. I'm not sure if you have the room for her to nest, they are very picky when it comes to that.

This is my 2 year old female RES. Is this 75 gallon too small? She is about 9in. The tank is 18in wide with a length of 48in

It's pushing it a bit, but I think that depends on how you handle the basking area. I would consider setting up a kiddie pool occasionally for her to swim around... you'll enjoy watching her zip and zoom around.
