Anything that you put in your tank is likely to become a meal for your turtles. If you value any fish that you purchase, you won't put them in the same tank. Turtles can go years being 'friends' with a fish that you put in the tank, and then one day eat them. If you are going to put any fish in the tank, I would suggest feeder guppies, or rosy red minnows, because if they getting eaten it isn't an issue.

Also, those fish will feed on what the turtles doesnt eat so that will keep the fish fed until the turtles eat them, and keeps the tank clean. Everyones a winner (except for the fish though...)

Yeah, I used to have 4 gouramis 2 yellow and 2 silver. They were all fine for months and then one day the yellow ones were gone. I still have the sliver ones though. I recently tried Cichlids thinking that if I got semi aggressive fish they would be able to keep the turtles somewhat away but no they only lasted like a half hour. Do you think it has anything to do with the color of the fish. It seems that the brite ones get eaten faster.

My feeders are silver...and the males have spots of color...and it seems that my females get eaten quicker.

Ooh! Off topic but I absolutely MUST ask you why your turtle is named Kiwi!? Is it from the turtle Kiwi in the Sega Genesis classic Shining Force 2?

I've never seen that game. It's just that when I got the two of them they were very small, and I tried to think of something small and green to name them. I came up with Shamrock and Kiwi, and as it turns out Kiwi is a male and Shamrock is the female. I thought Kiwi was more of a female name and Shamrock was more of a male name but I'm so used to calling them by their origional names that I just kept it the origional way. And being that Kiwi is a male he is still small compared to Shamrock.

Well Kiwi is a male turtle in the Shining Force game and he is a small very green turtle, arguably a RES himself!

I have a tattoo of him!

Check out this picture of him:

And here is a picture of my tattoo of him:

Here is the page about who Kiwi is in the game, and the writer, Moogie, who is a friend of mine, is somewhat biased as she feels Kiwi is a character added only for cuteness appeal and dismisses him usually, however many hardcore players like myself have trained him to be incredibly strong.

http://sf2.shiningforcecentral.com/page ... /kiwi.html

He has a very low amount of life in the game however, he is incredibly durable as any good, hard-shelled turtle would be, and attacks that can take 10 or more hitpoints from other strong characters usually take around 1 hp from Kiwi.

When promoted he becomes a huge monster which can randomly breath fire and cut monsters in half with one blow as he pleases!!

This is why myself and other die-hard Shining Force II fans have tattoos of him, as he proves even those small and weak can have big hearts and fight for good!

Finally, for comparison, look at this awesome picture of Kiwi in relation to the game's main characters Bowie and Sarah:

See him down there on the bottom about to throw his spikey helmet?
