I have a 55 gal tank and im considering buying a xp3 or xp4, to replace my emperor 400. Do you think xp4 would be excessive in my tank? Thank You for your comments.

Knowing that you are going to have to upgrade, I would say the xp4. I use an xp3 on my 75 gallon and it works wonderfully, but if I had had the option when I purchased mine, I would've done the larger one.

How big are your turtles? It's hard to say how the XP4s are preforming since they are fairly new. I would be tempted to stick with the XP3 and use 2 filters when you upgrade.

Good point Steve...I just assumed (bad word I know) that the xp4 was going to work the same way that the xp3 does. With the whole line of them xp-xp4, I would think that it would be an improvement over the xp3.

Another thing that you reminded me of. With a large tank, it would be nice to have a filter at each end. If you have two xp3s or even an xp3 and an xp2, that could be very beneficial.

The XP4 is made for fish tanks up to 265g. Considering that the filter for a turtle tank needs to be about 3x more powerful than the tank size, even with the XP4, a 120g tank would probably need two filters.

Getting two of the XP3 (if you get them on sale) or one XP3 and one XP2 would probably be a good setup for the 120 tank.

I'm using an XP3 and a Aquaclear 110 for my 125 gallon tank (with about 70 gallons of water) and it seems to be doing a good job.

I'm personally hoping that someone takes the leap and gets an XP4. If it's like the XP3 only with more capacity, it should be pretty darn good. :)
