My friend gave me a fully submersible water heater about a year ago (it was fantastic...although I don't know the name of it...) and it has since stopped working properly. I've been trying to find one, any one, but I can't seem to find a fully submersible heater ANYWHERE. The only pet store in my area is Petco and they only have 6-x inch submersible ones, so if anyone knows of a good water heater that I can order online, I'd greatly appreciate it...thanks so much!

I recently bought a VisiTherm Stealth heater, it's fully submersible, or you can attach it vertically if you keep the water above the indicator line. It was recommended on here, and I love it! The water hasn't changed even one degree since I put it in and set it. You can order it online, check around for the best price and shipping costs. www.Petsmart.com has no shipping on a lot of their items, not sure if they have this heater. make sure you get the right wattage for your size tank. If you plan on getting a bigger tank in the future, might as well get the biggest heater now to save money later on.

The wattage should be roughly between 3-5 watts per gallon of water.

I have been looking for a compact heater, if they make them, that is maybe shorter or is round, with suction cups that could stick to the side of the tank. THe one I have now is long and does not stay in place.

From what I have noticed with some of the major brands, wattage affects the length of the heater. I don't know if they market a "compact" size, though they do have small ones which will not be suitable in larger tanks.

yeah, Steve you are right there, the more watts you get the longer the heater will be. I have never seen a compact edition

I'd think that having a longer heater would make the heat disperse throughout the tank instead of being held in a small "compact" space. Just my thoughts
