How do you clean the flexable hoses that are attached to the intake out-take valves. Mine have become infested with alge. The hoses are attached with clips and are unremovable from the rest of the hardwear.

You can unlock those clips. They are tight... so it will take some muscle to separate the hose. I then use a fishing weight with a long string attached and slip it through. I then wrap a piece of paper towel around the string and pull it through. Its very gross but it gets the job done.

I use a flat tip screwdriver to pop the clips loose from both ends and remove the hose. I then fill half the hose with hot water and plug both ends of the hose with my thumbs and shake the hose vigrously. It cleans out the hose rather well.

I spray the hose through mine. It worked the last time. The clips are a pain though. I'm going to have to try the screwdriver idea.

Every 5-6 months I have to clean my hoses. What a pain! Maybe someday they will make a self cleaning filter!

I've seen in the stores recently they have long brushes specifically for cleaning filters, but I don't think they'd be long enough to clean the length of the hose...
