is it safe to put fiddler crabs(the little crabs you can get at the petstore that eat leftover food) in the same tank as turtles?

I wouldn't suggest it, chances are your turtle will eat them because anything you put in your tank will be considered lunch. Ig you really want something to clean up the food, I'd get something disposable like trapdoor snails, but they breed like rabbits and can be more hassle than they're worth as well.

I tossed a HUGE crayfish in my res tank a while back and the poor thing only lasted about 20 minutes. I'm sure it was an agonizing death for the poor thing. Stick with feeder fish. I've always got rosy red minnows and guppies in my tank and they do a good job of cleaning.

Whenever I buy snails to clean the tank, Leo eats them within minutes and then just plays with the empty shells... so it may be best not to rely on little creatures to help your filter keep things clean, haha at least in my case nothing seems to be allowed to clean before it become lunch

i actually did put a fiddler crab into my turtle tank. unfortunently it died because fiddler crabs dont like fresh water. the crab defended itself well against the turtle. be careful if you do decide to put the fiddler crab in freshwater. it will grow weak and die eventually.

JMO, If the crab "defended" itself it wasn't healthy for either one of them to be together regardless of whether it was freshwater.

a pleco lived in my turtles setup for about two yrs. It was like L.T. was waiting for it to get bigger so it would be a better meal

fiddler crabs in captivity need brackish water, which means it has salt in it.

Flutterby is right - fiddler crabs need a saltwater aquarium.
