Since your skin is at about 98.6 degrees, 80 degrees is going to feel cool to it. It took me awhile to accept it also. 75 degrees feels pretty cool to me but Spot seems to like it. I've checked the water temp with several different thermometers and they all agree on the temp and my touch test is just misleading. There's really no way to tell your temps are right except to get a good thermometer and trust in it.

80 is a little warm for hatchlings, how old are your turtles... if they are young try to go down about 2 degrees!!

The room temp will also throw off what it feels like to you.

I used to be able to "feel" what was close to the right temp (when I fill it up) but when I was scooping out leftover veggies the other night, it felt quite warm, but I checked it with both the digital and the stickon and it was 74... Just goes to show... NEVER TRUST YOURSELF

Im going to school to be a nurse, and we use a thermometer to find the temp of water for baths, showers... never trust yourself is right, even the professionals to it.
