ok i upgraded my tank to a bigger one. now i need a bigger filter. i was thinking the filstar xp1. what do you think abuo this filter? is there anything better around the same price? or cheaper? Thanks

What size is your aquarium in gallons. The XP series from Rena are known for being excellent canister filters. If you're trying to save money you could try a hang-on type filter. You always want to buy a filter that's rated for doube or triple the size of your aquarium. The more powerful it is, the less water changes and maintanence you'll have to do on your part. Big Als is having a sale, free shipping on orders $50 and up, and they generally have very low prices.

well the xp1 is rated for 45 gallons. i have a 20 gallon tank(sorry i forgot to mention that) i have a submerisable one int hter now but its not cleaning all of the water.

The XP1 would definetaly do a wonderful job cleaning that tank. There are a lot of really cheap hang-on type filters out there that could clean up your tank quite easily. From personal experience I'd reccomend the Bio-wheel brand filter.

yeah i have the wisper in my fish tank but i think the canister typ will do a better job. Thanks for your imput

Just keep in mind that you will need to upgrade to a larger tank probably within the next year. With a bigger tank you will need to buy another filter to supplement that XP1.

are the filstar's quite?

They have a sturdy base that has rubber feet. They're quiet, and they don't have that water splashing sound that hang-on type filters have.

The XP's are so quiet you have to put your ear up to them to tell that they're on!
