What are your thoughts about the decorative bubble walls? Will they be harmful to the turtles?

they aren't harmful, and some turts like to play in the bubbles

wut are bubble wands?

They're tubes that attach to the end of a piece of airline tubing and a pump. They disperse air bubbles into the water. This aerates the water and also can give a nice look to the tank. As mentioned above, the bubbles can also give turtles something to look at/do (bite air bubbles). You can find them in pet stores near air pumps/tubing and similar accessories.

Yeah you know, the underground bubble stones, they are long thick and usually are blue. You bury the bubble curtain in gravel or something. I've got one and he doesn't seem bothered by it.

I have a bubble wand in my tank and it seemed to be too much movement so I unplugged it.. Well.. my daughter (flutterby) came over tonight and she plugged it in and the one turtle did something so hilarious and I'd never seen him do it before.. he started "biting" the bubbles. Reminded us both of our Golden Retrievers who use to do that with the hose. So, I guess it will be staying on, at least on during the day

Mine has tried to bite the bubbles too cam! It's funny.

If the bubbles are causing too much movement you might try either a smaller wand or a smaller pump so the bubbles aren't as strong.

where do you get bubble wands?

Well they seem to be managing just fine with it on, like I said in another discussion, I tend to get paranoid.. lol

I got mine at the local petsmart.. its just an elongated air stone. It needs a separate pump just keep that in mind. But they like it.. they swim in the "current" ..

i have one, and i like it alot. my mom says my turtle likes to fart in the bubbles so no one knows he is farting. lol they look really nice. for a bubble bar i think you need atleast a 30 gallon air pump or better so that it will provide enought air for the surface area of the bubble bar.

Pretty much any place that sells anything pet related should have them. If your local pet store does not sell them(which seems kind of odd) then try Wal-Mart.

What sized pump would I need for a bubble wand? I'm thinking of getting a "bubble croc". It seems to go from 50-400.

I was thinking about getting the croc too, I think the one we have is about 8 inches or so.
