Habitat - Outdoor :: Turtles eating everything in pond except "their" f

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

Not really surprising, but my two new adult RES have eaten all my hyacinth and most of my lillies. They refuse their pellets, lettuce or anything else I offer them. I don't mind terribly, but my fish probably aren't happy about their habitat being consumed.

Any ideas?

Silly turtles! How typical!

here's some methods to entice eating:

So the turtles haven't started eating the fish yet?

You could try to find a few aquatic plants that your turtles would be less apt to eat. Hornwart is one that my turtles have never cared for (some people's turtles do eat it, though). If you're looking for cover for the fish, you could try some fake pond lilies...Perhaps with less appealing plant choices (and less food to fill up on), your turtles would be more interested in "their" food. :)

My turtle does not lik hornwort, but he will still shred it, and then eat it if everything else is gone.

But the goldfish love it and eat it all up!

I consider the pond plants to be turtle food. The turtle and the fish eat them, I replace them. I have buckets (with mosquito fish in them) of water in the yard for growing anacharis, and I toss a little in the pond for him almost every day.
I used to be a reptile expert. Now I'm just an old turtle lover.
