Got a flex liner & felt underlay for a new & enlarged pond. Figure I'll be removing the old 130 gal preformed by the end of the week and hope to have the new one dug & filled w/in a week or so after that.

The liner will support a 8' x 6' pond 3' deep. That's larger than I anticipate making, but will prob make a couple underwater 'shelves' and at least one end will be angled for easier basking.

One ? I have is about filters...I picked one up - bio / mech / uv combo to use along w/ current sub filter - but think I'll return it & have a go at making my own bio/mech so it's bigger (& hopefully better) than what I could afford to buy. Still researching, but any input would help. Only thing I know for sure is I want an out-of-water system. Hate pulling the current one up for cleaning all the time.

Anyhow...HAD to share the glorious news w/ other folk who understand me. Hubby doesn't understand why I want to do the digging / setup / hassle all over again when I have a perfectly nice 130 gal for 21" of still growing turtles. And hopefully the extra foot of depth will help maintain water temps better in the hot summer.

I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D :P

Here's a link to the Skippy site.

It's an in-pond design, I think, but the site says the filter never needs cleaning.

Here's a link with more DYI stuff than you probably want to see:
