My friends pond (where my turtle is going) is under a tree. She has two ponds next to each other but they are both shady. I was thinking she could install a heat lamp and a UV light on top of the basking area, so it would be like an indoor set up, but I was worried that they would get ruined when it rained. If anybody has any suggestions about this please let me know. He's not going there until the middle of summer. If it is expensive, it doesn't matter. They are excited about a turtle .

It might be tricky to find, obviously you can't just use regular indoor fixtures. I'd check around pool lighting or outdoor lighting or garage lighting to find something. Only major thing to remember (besides it needing to be waterproof) is that there can't be any glass between the bulb and the water, for the UVB bulb at least. Since you are going to a pond, you could look into mercury vapor bulbs as a one-stop shop kind of light, but I don't know if they can be outside or not.

I think it would be a lot easier, and safer, to trim the tree or whatever it is that's shading the area.

I don't think that would work. I can't exactly remember but there are a few trees and they are big. They like gardening and plants and trees so they won't want to cut down the trees.

Maybe that would work. It goes house, walkway, 2 ponds, a few trees and bushes and then a 6 ft fence.. it might not even work out at all .

Can you take a picture of the pond? Does NO direct sunlight get into it at ALL? Not even at certain points of time?
