anyone have a pond with a skimmer? if so, does your turtle get inside the skimmer?

or if anyone knows how turtles do with skimmer please speak up.

I'm thinking of adding a skimmer to our turtle pond project, but worried they are going to explore their way inside the skimmer.

I wish I could help you out... I'm also in the planning stages of our pond renovation. I'm still stuck on the pond filter, I have a skippy now and I'm looking for something more official. What type of filter are you going for??

I wouldn't get a skimmer. I don't have one, but my sister had one in her Koi pond, and she is always finging bull frogs and Koi in there. I don't know how they get in, but the Koi usually die...most of the frogs live though.

A skimmer should have a floating gate thing that only lets about 1/4" pf water flow over the top, this is to ensure the water is flowing from the surface and to deter fish and things. Alas we did have problems with fish getting in so we covered the front with a large mesh hardware cloth. Now it works fine, but the mesh can defeat the purpose of the skimmer.
