Habitat - Outdoor :: My new raised pond!

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

Post Posted: Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:57 am   My new raised pond!

first of all, thank you 'Petfreak1321' for inspiring me and giving me this idea! (http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16433)

I decided on using 4x4 pieces of wood, 8 feet and 4 feet pieces, 7 pieces high.
i measured each wood and made marks along each wood, predrilling holes in each wood to insert 14 pieces of rebar. drilling took a while, but putting it together was like playing with LEGOS.

When we bought the liner from home depot, we bought the epdm liner, which costs $13 compared to $8 pvc liner, but the workers are stupid and wrote down the item number for the pvc liner, so we saved quite alot!

(this premeasurement didn't turn out quite as i thought though, it ended up with about .25 gaps, as you can see in the pics). also, some pieces of wood seem to be jutting out, this is because i did not center the drill bit perfectly.

there are four small turtles in there with 10 feeder fish i have had for a while that now look like mini koi.

I am on my way to aquire some pond plants now.

Looks great! I've always envisioned making a pond in that manner (with the liner).

Great Work!

I'm planning on creating a pond like this aswell, but my question was is the rebar drilled in the ground aswell, or is everything above the concrete?

And how do you seal the pond liner to the wood?

This turned out GORGEOUS - I love the turtle fountain, and are there "steps" leading up the basking area?

That is absolutely gorgeous!! My husband just thought of doing something like this last week. We're considering putting one in our teeny back yard.

because 7 4x4s, which are 3.5x3.5 stacked up measure 24.5 inches, and the rebar is only 24 inches, the first layer of wood we drilled "pockets" for the rebar. so everything is above the concrete.

as for the liner, after having it filled up,
we put planks of wood on top then drilled screws right through.

the basking platform is made up of two milk crates stacked up. the ramps came from my younger brothers toy dump truck set. everything is zip tied together.

Thanks for the insight.

One last question, how much did this project cost you?
