I am not sure if this topic is in the right place but here it is. I have decided to get some water plants for my 100 gallon outdoor turtle pond. I was thinking of getting some lilies or something that spreads over the surface of the water. But I was wondering how do you grow the plants? Do you use those little baskets they have at home depot and lowes? What kind of dirt do you use? I kind of figured normal potting soil cant be safe for turtles and fish in a pond. Like I said in my other topic I am very new to outdoor ponds and need some help. Thanks

No soil.......You need to build like a ledge or step about 12 inches deep on the inside of the pond put some rocks and put the plants in the rocks

If you drop some water hyacinth in the pond, it'll spread over the surface quite quickly if your turt doesn't eat it fast enough.

Anacharis, water hyacinth, water lettuce, and duckweed do not need to be planted. The last three will spread over the surface of the pond, providing cover and helping to keep down the water temp.

Oh that is cool.
What about peat? Does that need soil, or is it one of those things where you just throw it in and watch it grow? Cause I don't know crap about outdoor ponds.

Peat moss? I know peat can be used to increase the acidity of water, but I have no idea about peat moss. You might do some research on the subject.
