Im looking for some algae eating fish to put in my pond. I have a laguna clearflo 700 with a built in uv light for algae, but it cant keep up with the amount of light my pond gets. i have a 300galllon rubbermaid btw.
Does anyone have any recommendations for algae eating fish? Preferably fish that are swift enough to avoid being eaten by my RES
Thanks!

I guess a pleco would do, not sure what common fish would do.

You'll want a full size Pleco. That way, it won't get eaten and it will survive outside better because they are tropical.

Is this outside? Cause if it is nothing really works. Algea eater fish are all pretty much tropical and would die once temps get cold.

I just put my 6 inch pleco in my pond cause my son ruined my temp tank while i dozed off. So far hes doing fine, as is the small 3/4inch cory cat in there. I dont think hes gonna get rid of the algea singlehandedly, lol. I used "pond magic" in my pond cause its directly in the sun and it cured it within a week. It worked for me, shouldnt have a prob working for you either. Hope that helps, i bought it at petsmart but its also at petco or im sure you can buy it online too. Sorry if im pitching this stuff but it works great and wont hurt my fish in there either.

if you get a pleco, the best kind are the sailfins... they are really territorial and are fast swiimmers even when theyre little.... providing hiding spots that turtle cant get into help too... they like pvc pipe... so that would work too....

My pond isn't oxygenated though they are some floating and tall plants, none are submerged. If I add a pleco or a few of them, will they die of oxygen? And will my adult RES devour them?

Nah I decided not to get pelcos. My huge turtles would eat them way too fast. Getting tadpoles are my first choice now since they feed on algae a lot!
