RES in koi pond

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered numerous times; I couldn't find any relevant posts. My ~9-10" RES shares a large outdoor pond with about 2 dozen koi ranging from 2" to 11". Q: Is it healthy for him to eat koi pellets? If not, how can I keep him from doing so when I feed them - he's very assertive and confident?
If anyone is interested, I acquired him from someone who was at a local shelter to turn him in (I was there to bail out a dog for our rescue group). I took him in the hopes that he would reduce the mosquito fish population, but it continues to grow ... the good news is that we certainly don't have any mosquitos! He doesn't seem to have bothered the koi either, although he definitely does a number on the water lily population.
Any suggestions about his care and well-being will be appreciated.

Nah eating the koi pellets wont do anything to him. They are pretty close to turtle pellets but not as good. So if it eats a couple it does nothing.
