I have a friend with a RES outside in a 100 gallon tank and canister filter. He lives in Florida. He's been having a lot of issues with algae. Do you have any tips? Bringing it inside is not a option

I'd recommend an emerged bog plant. The leaves growing out of the water will provide some shade, limiting the sunlight for the algae. Plus, because the plant is pulling CO2 out of the air, where it's much more available, instead of the water, it should be able to out compete the algae for all the other nutrients in the water.

Thank you my friend cleaned the tank and bought a bog and said it was doing good. This ment a lot to him since he's had the turtle for 30 years and recently took (more like snuck it on) it on a move by train from Ohio to Florida

Very cool idea, I've never though of that! It's almost always "use a UV filter", so this is a great alternative.
