Oops, This is a bit...Late.

Hi everyone,

Steve brought to my attention that I neglected to post pictures of my pond from this summer! Oh, well--maybe posting them now will make the winter weather a little less depressing.

...Anyway, oddly enough, I couldn't find any shots of the whole pond, but I had several turtle pictures. I guess I was just too focused on photographing them, but who could blame me? That being said, all you have to do is imagine an above-ground 300 gallon stock tank with a log in the middle and full of water hyacinth. Not very creative, but the sliders loved it.

Some nice blooms on the water hyacinth:

...Finally, does anybody here know the secret to growing lots of parrot feather? The little bit that I got stayed healthy, it just didn't seem to fill in very much. Most of it remained in scattered patches, like this one:

Those pictures are worth the wait! Turtles look great in there. Did you use a water filter?

Yes--I used a 55 gallon barrel filter with a 1000 GPH pump and a UV sterilizer. A horde of may flies also moved in and produced several generations of larvae. Between them and the plants, there wasn't even a speck of algae on the tank wall or bottom!

That's just sweet! Thanks for the gorgeous pictures. I have a 300 gallon inside.

I wish I was that fortunate. Your turtles must have so much fun!

This is possibly one of the best Outdoor set-ups that I have ever seen. No tank set-up could ever beat what mother nature can give for our turtles.

This is true, however for those that choose to make a turtle a pet any good proper tank also works well. I'm not a believer in keeping a turtle in a small tank just because people think they are cute. I wanted to give my turtles the most realistic living quarter's. The 300 gallon works pretty well for me but I must im looking into a larger tank and at times I think they might like it better back or just into nature. Release them your thinking. I have thought about it but then I think would I like my cat's outside? No! So here they stay till the day I die. What can I say, I love them and try to give them a great home. In my opinion if kept indoors the bigger tank the better. Would I keep my cat in a closet? Just something to chew on for everyone.
