Hi I just received a res from someone taking horrible care of her. She is in desperate need of a larger tank, but I can't afford one. My next solution is making a pond for her. I was already going to make a pond, but I don't know if she would be okay all year long in a pond. I live in Sterling, IL and we have harsh winters, would she be okay? I don't think she can swim because I filled the bath tub up with luke warm water and put her in it and she tried but she couldn't figure out how to get to the surface. What should I do?

I wouldn't advise it. How big is the turtle? You will need to have some money to have her thrive and there are a lot of ways to get things done on a budget. Did she have water in her tank before?

Does she have any physical problems? With RES who are not experienced swimmers, you usually just need to gradually increase water levels.
