I have a regular old light bulb in my RED cage and he is on his rock under it every day. When i used the ubv light he seemed to never go on his rock. But i still bring him in the sun for about 15-30 minutes a day. Do I need a UBV????

Yes, you still need a UVB. You're supposed to use both the UVB and the normal lightbulb at the same time. The UVB light isn't hot enough to make the turtle want to bask. So using both lights is better for your turtle.

going outside for the sun is wonderful for your turtle. And the fact that you are doing it every day is even better. It's not quite enough time, though, to provide what your turtle needs in the way of UVB. But it helps and turtles love it.

If you bring your turtle out for unfiltered light several times a week for an hour to 1.5 hours a day (depending on the time of day), you should be able to meet your turtle's UVB needs without a UVB light. But his exposure should be on a regular basis and when the weather warm enough. Your turtle will get more UVB rays from the sun than from a light.

if you see your turtle actually bask in the natural sun for at least 30 mins, then you dont need any UV lights at all. provided that they do the same every day of the year, or almost everyday.
